Dubai kicked my ass today

I feel completely and utterly defeated by Dubai today. I needed a hair cut so I called a cab to come pick me up from my apartment. It never came. I walked down the street towards the direction of the salon and an unmarked car stopped. I should have known better but I was missing my appointment... so I hopped in. The guy didn't try to touch me or anything like that, but he charged me an obscene amount for the ride (that lasted all of seven minutes).

I got into the salon in kind of a pissy mood, and it was one of those not-so-nice places (it was recommended by my friend who had been there before). The whole place was ran by Philipino women. I figure this is a good sign since Asians know how to cut Asian hair. Except this stupid hair dresser butchered my bangs. I look like a FOB now. While she was blow drying my hair, I told her I didn't want it straight. I wanted it wavy... but she obviously wasn't listening because my hair is now straight. I was pissed off, but I figure hair will grow back. I am okay with this, even though I really wasn't. I decided that I was never ever going back there again. In fact, I am just going to wait until I get home to cut my hair now. Not that I like hair dressers in Vancouver anyway, but at least I know one hair dresser back home who won't butcher my hair.

I walked out of the salon and was trying to get a cab and every single one of them ignored me. So I had to walk home. My friend said this is the 'Philipino sydrome". Cab drivers don't like to pick them up. I don't really know why... maybe because they think all Philipino women are prostutites. But I am NOT even Philipino...they just don't know the difference. Stupid cab drivers. The whole time I was walking home (probably took about 40 minutes), men were constantly blowing their horns at me. People would slow down to stare at me. It was extremely unpleasant. What a sexist and racist place. I hate it. I never felt more like a foreigner than I did today.

Dubai kicked me ass today. It made me feel awful. This apparently happens to everybody, but it still doesn't make me feel better. How am I to leave my house if I can't get a cab? And I am still upset about my hair. It's a good thing my mom is coming today. I could really use a hug... that is, IF I can get a cab to get to the airport....

Poor Kayo! That sucks...I thought they would be a bit more cosmopolitan there.... BTW, girls from da Philippines are called Filipinas and boys Filipinos..why no ph? I dunno...It's weird.

Soon you can laugh about this, like in April or something.

Oooo! I know what it's like to have my hair butchered too Kayo! Luckily, there is not evidence of that bad haircut. I'm glad your mommy is coming. Moms make it better!
