What are you this doing weekend?

I am going to be sitting in a five-star hotel room alone with a bottle of Belvedere vodka and censored Internet connection. Then I am going to a conference on Saturday. You?

Well, it's finally Thursday night, which is what the rest of the world known as 'Friday' night! In the UAE (maybe in other Muslim countries as well), the weekend days are Fridays and Saturdays. However, I only get Friday off this week. Saturday is a work day to make up for this holiday that's coming up. Basically, there are two major holidays coming up that are very close to one another. Instead of making people work between those holidays, they just gave us a longer break. In return for having a longer break, we have to work two Saturdays. I know, it's weird.

This weekend (Saturday and Sunday), I am going to a conference called "Information Literacy Network of the Gulf Region" in the American University of Sharjah. Sharjah is another Emirate that's not too far from Dubai. It should be interesting. Since I will be teaching information literacy classes starting next semester, it will be good for me to learn about other people's experiences teaching in the Gulf region. I've had very little instruction experience, let alone teaching in a different culture! I am hoping to make some good connections. (ie: making friends, networking... maybe someone will remember me when I am looking for a job in the future?)

This is a pretty blah post. Nothing really happened. I read up a lot about Istanbul and Turkey in general at the library today. I am obsessing over this extremely fascinating city/country! I want to go for a vacation in Istanbul in the near future. Anyone want to join me?

"Martoonie Thursday" after work today! Yee haw! Of course it would be much more fun if you were here.
And horror of horrors--on Sunday I turn 30. *shudder*
